Calm corner
Feeling nervous before an interview is normal, and it gets easier with practice. Use these any time: before you practise, before the real thing, or right now. To ease in gently, try the warm-up round.
Breathe with the circle
In for 4, out for 6. The longer breath out tells your body it's safe. Best when you feel panicky.
4 slow rounds, about 1 min
5, 4, 3, 2, 1
When your thoughts are spinning, this brings you back into the room. Take your time with each step.
Ready when you are.
Hear yourself at your best
Turn this on to keep your spoken answers on this device. Your best ones appear here to replay before an interview. They're never uploaded, and you can delete them any time in Me.
If your mind goes blank
It happens to everyone. Saying one of these out loud is completely fine, and it buys you time to think.
Sorry, my mind has gone blank. Can I have a moment to think?
Could you say the question again, please?
Can I come back to that one at the end?
I'm a bit nervous, because this job really matters to me.
Another way to see it
- Nerves mean you care
- Your heart racing is the same feeling as excitement. Try telling yourself "I'm excited" instead of "I'm nervous".
- They want you to do well
- Interviewers are hoping you're the right person. They're not trying to catch you out.
- Pauses feel longer to you
- A few seconds of thinking looks calm and thoughtful from the other side of the table.
- It's a conversation
- You're finding out if the job suits you too. You're allowed to ask questions and take your time.
Before you go in
Less to worry about on the day means more calm. 0 of 6 done.
If panic happens a lot, or gets in the way of everyday life, please talk to a doctor or someone you trust. You don't have to handle it alone. You can also talk it through with Cobi.
